Australian Government Invests 8.4 Billion Dollars in New Rail Freight Line

AUSTRALIA – In what could be a real boost to multimodal freight down under, the Australian government has committed to investing A$20 billion in new rail developments that it states will cut congestion in cities, grow the regions and create thousands of new jobs. The most noticeable project to receive funding is the Inland Rail project that has been allocated A$8.4 billion ($6.2 billion/£4.79 billion). If costs are manageable this development would potentially drastically cut the need for the giant B Doubles and road trains on long haul routes.
