Tamper with captive portal time limit

I’ve been looking into ways of bypassing captive portals and have found interesting solutions, most requiring setting up an iodine server for SSH or DNS tunneling. Now, I wonder if there are other alternatives where a user who has access to credentials could rather mess around with the portal’s session time and either reset, increase or decrease the time allotted to their session. My research points me to modifying the Javascript code or injecting specific scripts in the application. Am I on the right path? If not, can you give me hints on how to proceed? Or, how would you go about it? Thanks
