Title says it all, but we bought our home a little over a year ago and the ADT folks came knocking with the regional sales manager, who offered us free equipment as long as we signed a year contract. I’m a hard sell, he definitely had to work for it and I did not take the first offer from him. I am 100% positive he told us this would be a year agreement. 100% sure.
I called today, it has been a year, I want to cancel. The price is more than I agreed to, which apparently they can do as they see fit through the life of your contract. They informed me that 1. my contract was until 2025 and that 2. they are allowed to raise the price without much restriction. (what the fuck?)
I am one-hundred-thousand percent this sales manager guy told us we were just agreeing to a year. I understand that a contract is a contract, I am not really saying I have legal recourse here, and I have definitely learned a lesson about reading things more carefully when being sold something from a very nice salesperson, but at the very least they were being shady and must have twisted some words. I am not opposed to causing a ruckus, I do not like being rude to CS agents, but I’ll definitely advocate for myself. Has anyone found themselves in a similar position? Is it common that they say “you can cancel in a year” but fine print somewhere secret said otherwise?
What do? Can I make myself loud enough to make them fuck off?
ETA: I do actually still have the number of the sales manager that I bought with. I have yet to reach out to him, thought I would come here and collect my thoughts before I do so I don’t cave too easily.
