TLDR: Looking for wired camera system compatible with or separate door/window sensor system going to local storage and can be accesses via web and/or phone app. No monthly fees or monitoring contracts. Just equipment purchases.
Hello everybody,
I currently have ADT and I hate it. I only have it because it was already wired throughout the house when I purchased the home.
I am looking for a system that supports indoor and outdoor cameras, as well as door and window sensors, doorbell camera, and possibly some sort of smart lock on the front door. From another post in this sub, I read that it may be better to have 2 separate systems as most companies do one or the other, or don’t do the other that well. I am open to both options.
I am looking for wired cameras, as I don’t want them eating my wifi bandwidth and I want to avoid changing batteries. I am also looking for a 24/7 recording system and local storage that I can access through a phone app. In my opinion, 1080 or 2k is enough for me as the cameras would all be for close range use, and there are a lot of obstacles blocking any distance views.
For the sensors, wireless is fine, but the only preference is that I can also get phone notifications, but I would like to see the open or closed condition. Not just a notification that the door/window has opened, but if it is still open.
Also if there are any systems that are very compatible with various 3rd party options then that would be great. Something where I can add on my own keypad locks and doorbell camera would be nice.
In my previous residence, I installed a PoE Zmodo system myself. I really liked the cameras and the app interface. Zmodo has a lot of great options, but I just wanted to see if there were any other companies with similar or better quality with all the products they offer.
I would like to try to find a complete or customizable package, but I want to stay away from monthly fees and monitoring, as I will be monitoring the system myself.
I am open to suggestions as I am no expert, though I have installed my own system before.
