Moving to a WiFi lock, and trying to figure out what’s compatible with my door without patching/drilling

I’m about to have my solid wood door stripped and re-stained. It is the ideal time to update a lockset that is on its last legs (long story, but it’s an unusual lock for the US and a locksmith along the way turned it into something of a Frankenlock by filing this and trading this or that part out). I’d like to avoid making any modifications to the door itself beyond the strip and re-stain, but have bumped into one challenge – handle length and the drill offset for that.

What I’m trying to wind up with is a lockset = either as a package or as a visually compatible pairing of separate deadbolt and handle that meets the following:

  • 1 ¾” thick door
  • 2 3/8″ offset
  • WiFi enabled (perhaps zWave also, but I’d like to avoid a smarthub requirement) deadbolt that allows for permanent, date/time locked (perhaps with recurrence), and one-time use codes
  • Thumbpress exterior (knob/level considered, but prefer the thumb visually) and lever interior (again, knob considered, but every other lock in the place is a lever)
  • Brushed/Satin metal in the Chrom/Silver/Nickel family
  • 6 7/8″ center to center from knob hole for handle to bottom hole for handle (or with a range that includes that).
  • Keyable to a Schlage blank (to match all the other locks)

We believe the door to be solid mahogany, and would like to avoid the fill/re-drill approach for the handle.

I’m struggling on where to even begin looking for this somewhat obtuse handle measurement. The deadbolt and handle are separate drilled holes (Visually, it is a Mortise lock, but it is not the cartridge). I have basic locks knowledge (used to even be able to rekey back in the day), but this is touching more spots than I have experience with. I’m not even 100% sure what the offset I’m looking for is on the two holes that are the for the spindle and for the bottom anchor for the handle.

Any guidance on:

  • Where to find a compatible selection
  • Other approaches if I can’t find a matching fitment
  • Terminology to help me look more effectively

Would be greatly appreciated.
