Hey all, so as of right now I currently have a Ring alarm system. It works well and fine but I’m personally just not happy with it. I don’t want to go into a contract with a security provider, or have to pay a subscription. I’m perfectly fine with self monitoring. I’ve been doing a small bit of research and I found that Z-Wave alarm panels (iq2, 2gig) can be had relatively cheap on ebay. I was wondering if it would be possible to build a DIY wireless Z-Wave alarm system with off the shelf products. I was planning on going with something like the IQ2 and getting Aeotec Z-Wave based sensors. Can i use Aeotec sensors with the IQ2? Or will I have to get IQ sensors as well? As I said before I’m fine with self monitoring but I would like to be able to arm/disarm the system via my phone if needed and receive notifications when sensors are triggered. I’m new to the whole home alarm category, so please forgive my ignorance, but I’m very technical and always willing to learn something.
