So I’d like to move off Nest/Ring which I use for home camera surveillance.

Here’s what I’m hoping for:

• The ability to purchase multiple cameras, either PoE powered or more commonly just connected to a receptacle and relying on WiFi.
• Some cameras are indoor so ideally looking for a minimal physical footprint and something that looks elegant
• Some cameras will be mounted outside so need to be weatherproof
• I’d love to setup an NVR at home which can handle all the recording

So here are some questions:

• Can I mix/match cameras?
• Can I purchase a ‘generic’ NVR that would support all these different cameras? If so what is required of the cameras? is it just called RTSP support or something else?
• What are the top software packages for running on the NVR? The features I’m looking for are having a live dashboard that can show all cameras live, the ability to see any particular camera live full screen, the ability to see and jump to events/movements. It would be nice to be able to define event zones, detect faces, detect license plates
