Car broken into while I way on vacation, can someone explain PoE camera set to me like a newborn?

Hi guys, I’m a single woman living in an apartment whose car window was smashed while I was away. I am looking to add a camera over the garage of my townhouse.

My goals for a camera are:

Can’t drill (was looking at siding mounts) No monthly subscriptions No battery (most flexible on this)

I have a neighbor with wired cameras mounted above his garage so it seems a wired set up is possible, but I am struggling whether I should get a PoE camera or wired WiFi camera.

Assuming I can pass the power adapter or PoE cable through the garage, I have a power socket about a 1 foot from the garage door to comfortably plug an adapter in. I have black Verizon Fios box plugged in right there. My single router is inside my house far from the garage.

From my research, it seems that most PoE set ups need an NVR. For one camera, is that necessary and/or cost effective? Does the NVR need to be in the garage? Can I set up one PoE powered Camera without an NVR?

If you could explain the most basic set up I need for a PoE camera with no NVR (which I’ve seen done), I would really appreciate it. How would I see the footage? Would I be able to view live streams?

Just stressed out and struggling.
