I have been wanting to set up a security system for years, and my husband is finally on board with it. I was really interested in Vivint (until their door-to-door salesman kept showing up at 8pm every day for 2 weeks straight), but my husband is a little on the paranoid side. He doesn’t like the fact that some companies can pull your recordings without notifying you, so he really wants a system that is all internal and there isn’t a company that can access your feed at any time. I talked to the guy from Vivint who said their products are connected through data instead of wifi, and that Vivint doesn’t have control over our system at all. I feel like this would be a good selling point for my husband, but I don’t know enough about their products to make that call (When I asked for a brochure or even a business card, he said they don’t carry those.)

Basically, I am looking for recommendations on security systems where the company is not able to access your feeds or recordings unless you give them authorization. My husband wanted to MacGuyver a system together that only we would be able to access through monitors in our house, but I would prefer to get something that I can check when I am not at home and that is “ready-made” and can be installed professionally. I am open to specific companies or products that would be easy to install on our own since I would likely be in charge of that.
