Edit/TLDR: Looking for double cylinder deadbolt with exterior electronic keypad.
Hi All,
All of our exterior doors have large glass panes in them, yet the all the deadbolts that are installed (that came with the home) can be unlocked without a key from the inside. This makes me think that getting into the home is as simple as smashing the glass (or cutting it, though I don’t think most thieves in our area are so tactical) and unlocking the deadbolt.
On our backdoor, we have a Schlage smart lock (again that came with the home) that has stopped working (the exterior thumbturn no longer operates the deadbolt. I’ve taken it apart and it seems like the cylinder may have been changed at some point and swapped for an “incorrect” one) and so we need to replace it.
This got me wondering if there was a lock that had the ease of a keypad on the outside but the security of needing to be unlocked via a key from the inside. I’m aware of the non-electronic deadbolts that have this feature, but my family has found the benefits of the keypad to outweigh the risk. For the curious we have Simplisafe as our home alarm with cameras and various sensors.
As a fan of the LPL, I did my best to see if he had picked and thus reviewed any like this, but no luck.
Thanks!
