Emergency service workers rescued a man trapped in a car by floods that hit Spain.
For some background, I’ve been doing side IT projects for a decade. Everything from building websites, building computers, basic networking, phone repair. And I’ve built up a reputation in my community even though it isn’t my full time job.
Well two years ago, a family friend asked me to wire some cameras in a little warehouse. I did a nice little NVR (Reolink) with 8 POE cameras, and it’s been great. Since thin, every 4 or 5 months, I’ll get asked to do something similar. I’ve done some basic Arlo mounting. Recently I finished my first job in an actual house. I had to climb into the attic and everything. Pretty intimidating at first but it wasn’t too bad.
I know that today I am not “ready”. I need to refine some handyman-related skills like cutting holes into walls and just general comfort in attics and crawlspaces and such. There is also a lot of business stuff like insurance, liability, contracts that I need to review.
My town is growing a lot, and Everytime I turn around new houses are built. I just think there are a lot of opportunities.
What are some considerations when starting such a business? Is it necessary to go work for some security company first?
