I’m building a server and I’d like to also build a home security system. I’ve been looking online and seeing a bunch of different methods for doing so, but I wanted some opinions on the best way go go about it considering I haven’t done this before. I had planned on having the security system as part of the server but it appears a lot of the software is effectively it’s own OS, so I might have to put it on a PI as I had planned to put Ubuntu server on the proper server I’m building. I also have a jetson nano if that’s of any use in setting up some sort of identification system (not who someone is, but rather a person vs an object etc). I want to use open source software and I don’t want anything like ring or the stuff you see sending data back to home base. I want to process everything in-house. Does anyone have any recommendations on software and hardware for such a system? Or maybe good links to a good DYI system that works? I’m willing to take more time saving up for more expensive parts if it does what I’d like it to do, which is essentially notify me if someone is wandering through the house or in my yard at 2am.
