Hello r/homesecurity,
I’ve got a friend currently going through an issue with a neighbor who is upset over losing access to a private well they had illegally been tapped into after my friend purchased a forclosed property. The well is very clearly in my friend’s property as it’s behind his fence.
The neighbors have been purposefully antagonizing my friend’s dogs openly with sirens and gunshots, then attempting to record the dogs barking in effort to get them classified as a nuesence. I’ve witnessed this first hand and It’s obnoxious. The problem is that the neighbors have a head start on my friend with the courts as most of this was done while they weren’t home.
The sheriffs who have been advising my friends are asking them to get counter-recordings as evidence. The sheriffs are stating that the way the law works, he’s at a disadvantage without digital evidence. My friends are bought a flip phone a few months ago level of technology so they’ve asked for my help.
I have experience with wired Reolink systems but none of the cameras record 24/7 Audio from what I can see. In an ideal world, we’d love to utilize a parabolic mic to catch the neighbors discussing it as they’ve been seen sitting at the fence discussing it openly while laughing about it.
Does anyone know of a good system? Can you plug any old mic into the audio port of a standard Reolink DVR or one like it to record audio? This is a rural property so a standard on camera mic might catch the very loud sirens, but likely wouldn’t catch the harassing words.
Thanks in advance for any help!
