I previously posted to ask advice on converting my Vista 50P based system to a “smarter” security system. I’m now considering doing self monitoring only (i.e.: only receiving a notification or SMS if a sensor is triggered – I don’t need a monitoring service). I also don’t need any other home automation.
I know the 50P is incompatible with internet modules, so I am thinking of “downgrading” to a 20P or 21iP and using it with an Envisalink 4 as suggested before. My understanding is that I can get notifications without a subscription, but I’m not sure how complicated it will be to set this up.
I’m basically looking for a way to do what can be done with a Ring Retrofit system, without using Ring, haha…
– What is involved in switching the Vista panels if I am keeping the same sensors and keypad? Is it as simple as moving the wires from 1 panel to the other? Or do I have to reprogram everything from scratch?
– Does the 21iP already have built-in capability to send notifications without additional equipment (ie: Envisalink)? If I am getting the Envisalink, can I just get the 20P?
– Is it difficult to program the the 21iP or the Envisalink 4 to send notifications?
– Lastly, if I change my mind in the future about monitoring, and I’ve switched panels – which one will give me the best options for the future? Will both the 20P and 21iP give me phone/cell/internet connection options?
Thanks in advance for any input. I know I might be in over my head with the DIY/programming side, but I’m also just interested to learn!
