So a while back I bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YB3SRZ8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 home security camera. As indicated on the Amazon page, it stores the video it captures locally or in the cloud, and is equipped with facial recognition technologically–sort of.

I say sort of because while you can teach it what all the friendly faces in the family look like (and friends and neighbors, etc.), and it can detect an unknown face and send you an alert, in the case of a break in, a home invasion, or the theft of your car that is sitting in the driveway, what am I able to do with the video?

What I mean is, can I take that video down to the local police department and have them run the face of the criminal against their database of known perpetrators or persons deemed suspicious who have been picked up by the police’s own facial recognition cameras? Is this a thing? Can the police help you in this way?
