I live in Costa Rica, so please keep in mind laws are very different here.
We have a lot of breakins here. I am building in a gated community, but still breakins are semi common. I am putting in a layer security system by a professional company which includes door and window alarms and infra red sensors, cameras, flood lights, an 8 foot concrete wall, bushes with thorns around the wall, and laser perimeter sensors. I also have 2 dogs that bark every time a leaf falls. I want to add something to the top of my walls, either anti climb spikes, electric fence, or razor wire. My security company said they prefer to go with the spikes and I like the fact that on top of an 8 ft wall it will be the least visible option.
Each solution has its draw backs, electric fence would need a battery system that may run our of juice due to extended power outages. Razor wire can be cut. Spikes can be bypassed with things like carpet. The bushes can easily be cut down, most people are farmers and have those tools with them at all times, and a wall can be easily scaled.
I guess I am looking for what your preferences are and if there are any other options to consider?
I know some may see this as overkill, but remember it is very different here and crime is a real issue. Just recently a neighbor was tied up with his family and robbed. The house I’m renting now was previously robbed and the owner killed. So yea, I need to ensure safety.
