Hi, looking for help for a security system for my elderly mothers house. Its 3 floors and has 2 balcony doors on each floor plus 1st floor has front door and back door and then there is a door in the basement that also has door for backyard. Sooo LOTS OF DOORS! She is constantly forgetting to close one or more of the doors either at night before bed or when she leaves house to go the grocery store etc. I read that other than their shite cameras (no interest in cameras either indoor & already has outdoor camera) Simplisafe seemed to get recommended a lot. I just purchased Simplisafe kit from Amazon prime day sale and after 1 day with it I already know I’m gonna return it. The test case was as follows: – I put sensor on front door and left front door open. – I set alarm and walk out of house. – I stand outside of the open door waiting the 45 seconds for the alarm to set and hear “alarm away” or whatever it says. USELESS! – Alarm is now set to away with door open. – I than closed door and nothing happened. – I open door and then finally I here system active to disarm

Completely useless for my situation for my elderly mother. Someone could literally go inside the open door whike she is out and close the door behind them until my mother gets home.

2nd thing I would like in security system/door sensors is to personally name each door sensor so that if she leaves say basement door open, and goes to set alarm, system will announce that “basement door open” or 3rd floor balcony door open” etc. So she knows which door is open. I know with most systems you can probably use the app on your phone to see which sensors but my elderly mother can barely use her contact list on her iphone.

These are the only TWO things that I want for security system for her. Any suggests from someone who already has any experience would be very much appreciated as I have already gone through several reddit pages and can not find anyone talking about this.

Current home cameras: 1.) Hikvision outdoor cameras: I got professionally installed around exterior of house. The motion detection is pointless because her home is surrounded by trees, and wildlife so they just go off for everytime wind blows. I got it installed just so we can watch the cameras when she is coming home at night or in case we cant get a hold of her and she might have fallen in backyard etc. 2.) Google doorbell + google mins+ the google hub: so she knows who is at the doorbell before opening it. I like that the Google doorbell let’s me name the doorbell and when someone rings her bell it will ding dong and then announce “front door doorbell” or ” back door doorbell” this is something I wanted with the door sensors.

What about abode diy security system? I haven’t found ton of reviews on it.
