Is ADT Active Monitoring worth it?

I am post-contract with ADT and paying $50/month. The $50/month made sense while I was paying off my equipment. I have asked ADT to renegotiate, and at best they’re offering me $40/month. I’m probably just going to cancel. Here are my questions:

(1) In your minds, what is the real benefit of Active Monitoring? My local law enforcement will show up in 2 to 3 hours after a burglary call. There’s simply no way that a burglary is going to be stopped in progress, and the criminals well know that. I do see a slight bit of deterrence by having a system, but actually having Active Monitoring doesn’t really add to it. I feel like I’m paying $600/year for what amounts to the illusion of protection. On top of it, $600/year is ridiculous for what amounts to little (to no) work on ADT’s part. Am I missing something?

(2) I do like that I would be notified of a breach while I’m at home, and I would like to continue to get the Control App notifications. If I cancel my service, having paid off the equipment, will ADT “blacklist” my equipment and/or terminate my use of the Control App?

Your input and advice is appreciated!
