My family and I bought a house and it came with a DSC security system. According to their children, the previous owners switched a few years back to a centrally monitored security system and no longer used the DSC. I checked the panel in the basement, and the model number is PC1832. There are also two PK-5501 keypads on the main floor. Finally, there are two wired motion detectors. One at the back of the house on the main floor and the other at the front.
My question is whether it is worth keeping this stuff? We are having the house re-pained in about a week and we are wondering about removing the motion detectors and patching over where the wiring is. They aren’t huge but they are a bit ugly.
Would you recommend we keep the system or patch over it? We aren’t in a position to upgrade at the moment to something better.
One further problem is that the previous owners didn’t provide us with the code for the DSCk so if it’s not the default one then I’m not sure how we can gain access to the panel and actually activate things.
