Where is the best place to put the NVR?

I am doing research on setting up a home surveillance system. I expect to have 4-6 outdoor cameras attached to the soffit. Wiring is something bug me a lot. If I choose POE cameras, I would have to run the wires to its power source, likely to be the NVR. If the NVR is placed along with home network router/switch, it is quite a distance from the attic to where they are. That would bring up two routes:

  1. from the attic go through the siding then run downward and get back inside;
  2. from the attic go to a bedroom’s closet, from there run one ethernet wire to the router;

Taking all (convenience to access, security in the case of break-in) in consideration, can you share your thoughts about this – where the NVR should be placed? Thanks a lot!
