Why Are Bats So Healthy? They Fly

Apparently if bats didn’t have wings they’d be as sick as dogs. The key to bats’ health seems to be flight, or at least the effects that evolving flight has had on the bat body. For all the billionaires trying to cheat death, who wish to st…

Google Nest Doorbell vs. Aqara doorbell

Hi All,

I’m trying to get a new video doorbell and confused between the Nest doorbell and Aqara. Here’s the list so far of what I think is required in the doorbell: 1. No subscription fees 2. Good image quality 3. Clear audio 4. Storage for atleast 24-48hrs at minimum

Now when I compare the two options: 1. Nest has great image quality but no storage without subscription 2. Aqara G4 is not so great in image quality or audio but has good storage (and obviously cheaper)

If anyone owns any of these, would love to hear from you what your experience has been.

I’ve considered eufy, ring and blink and not found them to be as good as the 2 I’ve shortlisted but please correct me if I’m being ignorant.

Thank you for your help!

OpenAI Fires CEO Sam Altman for Lies

A few months ago I wrote that Sam Altman seems to lying on purpose. My argument back then was nobody should trust OpenAI (or Microsoft) when they promise data is safe in ChatGPT. Nope. NOT safe. …Microsoft reportedly suspended use of ChatGPT inte…

3 similar instances of strangers behaving oddly on my porch this week, but the police can’t do anything because no actual laws were broken

This started on Monday around 11:30 am. I was at work and got a notification for my security cameras (Blink), and when I checked it was an older guy I’ve never seen standing on my porch, ringing the doorbell, and looking in the windows (I have a door with glass panels that are slightly see-through). It was weird, but nothing immediately alarming. That is until this guy came back two more times this week, rang my doorbell, and then immediately walked off without even waiting for an answer, all during normal working hours. And that’s just one of the instances this week.

The next was on Tuesday night at about 7:15 pm. I was home doing some work in my room when my dog started going ballistic at the door, and then the doorbell rang. I wasn’t expecting anyone, so I looked at the cameras and saw two middle-aged women standing on my porch. Again, people I’ve never seen before. Except they didn’t leave and started yelling about how they were gonna call the police on me. They stepped off the porch and waited out on the street by their car for almost an hour. I called the non-emergency police line, but they were gone by the time anyone showed up.

The last incident is more minor, but this other middle-aged man keeps showing up and ringing my doorbell then filling up some empty milk gallons with my water hose. He doesn’t look homeless, but who knows. I don’t really mind this that much as long as he stays away from everything else.

I’m just confused because stuff like this never happens, and now a lot of it is happening all at once. The first guy seems like he’s casing the house, and the two women seemed like they might be on drugs. I’m also a little on edge because I’m Jewish and live in a very non-Jewish area, so I kinda stand out and there’s a lot of antisemitism going on. Nothing these people did indicated that was why they were here, but it’s a concern nonetheless.

What exactly should I even do? The police can’t intervene without an actual crime happening, and I’m paranoid about someone breaking in while I’m at work.
