Hello Home Security!

I’m new to the subreddit and looking for some recommendations and advice.

We’re looking for a few cameras that have local access. I’d prefer ones that have an internal battery and solar power for 24/7 surveillance. We want to be able to remotely access the cameras and save recordings if necessary. I’d prefer a completely wireless setup, but can work with running power or network cables if absolutely necessary. We want to do indoor and outdoor cameras as well as night vision.

Our neighbor, unfortunately, has started experiencing some decline in her mental health. She has a son who has a rough history with vandalism and the law, so we want to make sure any vehicles that are parked on the street are safe and no one unwelcome comes through our fence. It’s sad to say, but despite only a couple brief interactions over the past few months, the neighbor tries to pull us into her family drama and we’d like to take precautions.

While folks are reading the post, I’m wondering if any of the home security companies are worth speaking with? I’m under the impression that they really only provide peace of mind and a sign to deter any nefarious actors. Is that true?

Any other home security measures I’ve glossed over that would be beneficial given our circumstances? I’ve seen some alarm systems, or window and door alarms but I’m not sure they’d be worth the endeavor?
