Blank Slate. Which Company/Tech to Choose?

I am remodeling a house down to the framing. I’m at the point of installing exterior doors and as I was looking at locksets I realized what a hodgepodge that market is. Which got me thinking that it may be time to rethink my strategy.

I’ve been a Vivint customer for 8 years. I don’t hate them like most of you. It’s been a good product and I know enough to coach their poorly trained CSRs through the process when I add devices. However, I don’t like how difficult it is to buy non zwave components like smoke detectors and door sensors. Its also much harder to buy zwave locks than other technogies.

What recommendations do you guys have for an overall system starting from scratch? I’ve tried to do the research but I feel like online reviews and articles are terribly biased. Details:

-2 story home w basement and will have wifi extenders.

  • outbuilding/shop 50 ft away I would potentially want included

-want to include outlets, switches, window and door sensors, smoke/co2 sensors, ZONED thermostat, door locks, garage door

-cameras with remote access

-some level of outside monitoring as we often aren’t available to check phones right away

-prefer to run a home server

  • gigabit internet

-big place so easily 100+ nodes

Having used and expanded Vivint for so long everything looks like a nail when all you have is a hammer. Looking for fresh ideas.
