Due to the Covid pandemic and his health John of God was released from Aparecida de Goiania Complex prison into house arrest in early 2020.
John of God’s real name is João Teixeira de Faria.
He is a Brazilian self-proclaimed medium and psychic surgeon.

John of God caught the attention of people from all over the world to Brazil with promises of having cures for cancer, depression and many more diseases.
He was alleged to have performed various miracle surgeries on thousands of people since his work began in 1976.
In December 2018 Faria was accused of sexual abuse, rape and paedophilia by more than 200 women.
However, the allegations were not new and for decades journalists had tried to address this when interviewing him.
Many women told news outlets that Faria told them they were special before taking them to his bathroom, where he would then abuse or rape them.
His daughter supported the various women by calling her father a “monster” and revealed that she was one of his victims when she was only 10 years old.
There were also reports that he ran a “sex slave farm”.
It was reported that hundreds of girls were enslaved over the years, raped and their babies were sold for up to £40,000 in Europe, USA and Australia.
Joao Teixeira de Faria was charged with rape and sexual assault in four different cases in December 2019 and was sentenced to 19 years and four months.
He then was charged an additional 40 years in January 2020 for five more cases.
Faria is facing additional cases to 10 sex crimes after another 44 women came forward in August 2021 and accused him of abuse.
He was also convicted of illegally possessing firearms.
John God’s prison sentence ends after 62 years and four months.
He continues to deny all the allegations against him from prison, even though he got sentenced for them.
