We often hear that the Bible is responsible for the transatlantic slave trade and slavery in general. However, an examination of history shows that abolitionist forces were most often motivated by the Bible. So where is the truth of the matter? Does to Bible promote slavery, forbid it, or something in between? Today the focus lies on the Jamaraat or pillars where faithful followers of Islam fling stones to represent the stoning of the devil by Abraham. Prior to 1980, there was only one Jamaraah, but due to accidental death and crowd control, two more pillars were added and explained away as being traditional to the 3 different instances of the devil being stoned. If there are two things every modern Muslim agrees on, it’s that you can’t eat pork and you can’t drink alcohol. But, if the historical records are to be believed, the early “Muslims” thought very differently about at least one of those.
