I’m not a trained Professional Alarm System Tradesman but come from an Electronics and Computer Science background in my former professional life so I wasn’t fearful to attempt an upgrade on my own. Having said that if you have basic mechanical and electronic abilities and can perform simple keypad operations this is something you may wish to try, and needn’t fear if you have the time or the interest and are a “Do it Yourselfer”. If not hire an Alarm system Tradesman, or if all else fails during the process you can always call a local Pro to come bail you out. These Honeywell Vista type systems likely represent the largest installed base of Alarm systems in North America, so finding Alarm Companies to work on these is usually easy, and it’s the same backbone system as used on a lot of the ADT systems.
Our original system consisted of a 1998 Honeywell Ademco Vista-20SE module, a 4219 Zone Expansion module, and 2ea 6139 Keypads. It had 8 Zones wired to the Main 20se PCB, and 4 Zones added to a 4219 Zone Expansion module. And all zones in the house were hardwired.
The new system now consists of the Honeywell Vista-20P module, the same original 4219 Zone Expansion module, 1ea 6160RF Keypad, 1ea original 6139 Keypad, and the new Envisalink 4 PCB. Note: the Internet Connection for the Envisalink 4 PCB requires an Ethernet Cat-5 cable to the PCB.
I ordered a new Vista-20P module, the 6160RF keypad, an Envisalink 4 PCB, a Wireless Repeater (with an RJ-45 port to provide its internet connection), and a short Cat-5 Ethernet Internet cable from Amazon. I also installed an additional 110VAC outlet below the System Box for the Repeater.
Repeater was this one:

Then while waiting for everything to arrive, I recorded of the existing Firmware values from the old 20SE. This provided a good opportunity to get used to Viewing and Recording our current Firmware settings as well as practicing keying in values (lots videos on line for that as well). The Sensor wires were all labeled in the Box, but I labeled them further with labels like these https://www.amazon.com/Gardner-Bender-42-029-Booklet-Identification/dp/B000VZM37C/ref=sr_1_14?keywords=electrical+wiring+labels&qid=1697066800&s=industrial&sr=1-14-catcorr
(6 on a strip) and took a picture of the PCB and the wiring in the box, also inside the 4219 Expansion Module. I referenced my Original Vista-20SE Installation Instructions manual, and looked at the other online manuals for the new Vista-20P and the Envisalink 4 while waiting for the parts to arrive from Amazon. I’ve attached links to the good Docs below. As well as a link to a 2008 Cheat Sheet from Jim. L (unknown last name). Thanks Jim!
Wiring connections are identical on the old Vista-20se PCB and the new Vista-20P so you can simply remove and attach them in the same positions (but mark them if they’re not already). The other good thing is you can simply remove the old Vistsa-20se PCB from the Metal Box and install the new Vista-20P PCB in the same box without having to remove it or any expansion modules, batteries, sounders etc. to save lots of time. Obviously unplug the power cube and back up battery before starting on the PCB exchange.
But what I REALLY WANTED TO SHARE TO SAVE BOATLOADS OF TIME AND STRESS is the handy Firmware Programming Sheet I developed during the process. It took me a few days to develop and hopefully it helps you save lots of time and simplify your upgrade process. It’s an online Google Sheets Document which you can Save a Copy of your own in Google Sheets or in Microsoft Excel and mark up for your own settings on your upgrade. I put MANY hours into the spreadsheet and hope you find it useful. Send feedback if you like and I can make changes.
