On January 4 and January 8, 2023, Channel 4 (Iran) aired an interview with British Bishop Richard Nelson Williamson. Williamson said that the Jews control the media, that they “twist” people’s minds, and that they have cleverly taken control of universities and the media. He also said that the Holocaust was a “myth”, that the Jews have replaced “objective” history with their “emotional scenario” about the Holocaust, and that only around 100,000 Jews were actually killed. Mocking Holocaust survivors, Bishop Williamson said: “I was there and I saw it, when the Hungarian [Jews] were being burned it was green smoke and when the Czechs were being burned it was red smoke.” In addition, he said that the Jews created the Freemasons so that gentiles bring “Jewish corruption” into Christian society, and he claimed that the Jews have “infiltrated” the U.S. government and were behind 9/11, the war in Ukraine, and the JFK assassination.Bishop Williamson has been convicted of Holocaust denial in Germany and was excommunicated by the Catholic Church in 2009, he was reinstated by the Church in 2009, and excommunicated once again in 2015.The MEMRI Lantos Project exposes anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial in the Middle East region and Middle Eastern communities in the West with the aim of supporting legislation and educating media and the general public.

Prior to joining CSIS, Mr. Johnstone served in government for 25 years in a variety of senior positions with a focus on U.S. policy toward Japan and the Indo-Pacific. He served twice on the National Security Council, as director for East Asia under President Biden and director for Japan and Oceanian affairs under President Obama (2014–2016). In the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Mr. Johnstone led offices with responsibility for South and Southeast Asia (2017–2021) and East Asia (2016–2017); he was director for Northeast Asia from 2010 to 2014, where he had principal responsibility for developing strategy for the U.S.-Japan alliance. Mr. Johnstone began his career as an intelligence officer in the Central Intelligence Agency, where he worked on national security issues in Northeast Asia and served in an overseas field station. Mr. Johnstone has a master’s in public affairs from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs and a bachelor of arts from Swarthmore College. Former Hizbullah MP Nawaf Mousawi said in a January 3, 2023 show on Al-Manar TV (Hizbullah-Lebanon) that there was nothing “heroic” about the January 2020 U.S. assassination of IRGC Qods Force Commander General Qasem Soleimani, since it was known when his plane would land and who is on board. In contrast, he said that an example of “real heroism” was an operation he claimed was carried out in the same month by Soleimani’s “disciples” during which a CIA plane carrying top CIA officials, including Iran Mission Center commander Michael D’andrea, was “downed” (false reports about such an attack were circulated by Russian and Iranian news outlets in January 2020 – in truth, D’andrea retired from the CIA in 2021). German-Egyptian scholar Hamed Abdel-Samad said in an interview that was posted to the Brother Rachid TV channel on YouTube on November 17, 2022 that Islam has been “distorted” from the beginning and that countries that implement shari’a law such as Afghanistan, ISIS, Iran, and the Boko Haram have failed to produce ideal societies. He also said that the Gulf countries are abandoning shari’a law because it is incompatible with their economic interests, and he said that in the modern world, shari’a law has been reduced to the subjects of sexuality and hijabs because there is no longer a slave trade.
