Dramatic moment ten ‘armed and dangerous’ inmates break out of jail through hole in a cell in Shawshank – style escape

THIS is the shocking moment ten inmates – some even convicted killers – broke out of a New Orleans jail while a staff member was on her food break.

Only three fugitives have been recaptured, three jail staff have been suspended – and seven men are still on the loose.

Police discovered the prisoners were missing from the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans during an 8.30 am head count on Friday morning.

The men escaped through a hole in their cell behind the toilet, according to The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, who released images of the scene.

They reportedly crawled into a pipe chase, made their way to a loading dock and and then scaled the prison wall.

In shocking surveillance footage, two men are seen kicking and pulling at a door before yanking it open.

Separate footage shows the moment all ten inmates bolt from their cell block.

Another video then reveals the men exiting the prison premises, using blankets to scale a barbed wire fence.

Finally, the inmates can be seen sprinting across a dimly lit motorway.

Police have revealed that only one staff member was assigned to their cell pod.

The civilian technician was eating at the time of their escape – and it was only after several hours that the prison break discovered.

Three prison staff have been suspended, according to The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.

It is unclear whether the woman on her food break was among them.

Hours after the escape, inmate Kendell Myles was found hiding underneath a car in a hotel parking garage in the French Quarter.

Later on in the day, Robert Moody and Dkenan Dennis were the second and third escaped inmates to have been captured by cops.

The remaining seven are still at large.

It remains unclear how the fugitives were able to break loose, but officials said they were investigating whether any correctional officers had helped them out.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson said on Friday that the inmates could have been given tools to assist with their escape.

She said: “It’s almost impossible, not completely, but almost impossible for anybody to get out of this facility without help.”

She said the men were able to get out of as a result of “defective locks”.

It is also unclear how some of the men obtained regular clothes.

Hutson said her department was working with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to search for the inmates.

She added: “We are launching a full investigation to determine how this escape occurred, including reviewing facility protocols, staff performance and physical security measures.”

Orleans Parish district attorney Jason Williams said: “These inexcusable failures have put lives in danger.

“This represents a complete failure of the most basic responsibilities entrusted to a sheriff or jail administrator.”

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill similarly said the escape was “beyond unacceptable”.

She said local authorities should have informed the public sooner.

She added that the inmates have had plenty of time to get to “frankly anywhere across the country”.

THE CHARGES FACED BY THE FUGITIVES

The inmates behind the prison break were identified as Antoine Massey, Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate, Kendell Myles, Derrick Groves, Jermain Donald, Corey Boyd, Gary Price, Robert Moody, Decannon Dennis, and Keith Lewis.

Myles, 20, faces charges for concealing a weapon, bringing contraband into prison, and possession of contraband.

He has a history of escape. In July 2022, he escaped Bridge City Center, then was accused of carjacking and shooting a man in Uptown New Orleans.

He was indicted in that case.

Groves, 27, is an accused killer who was arrested on a second-degree murder charge and an attempted second-degree murder charge.

Donald, 42, has also been arrested on a second-degree murder charge and has been accused of aggravated battery and possession of a firearm.

Boyd, 20, is another at-large criminal who is accused of second-degree murder and aggravated battery.

Massey, 33, was jailed on domestic abuse charges involving strangulation and car theft.

Vanburen, 27, was arrested for illegally carrying weapons, obstruction of justice, and introducing contraband into prison.

Tate, 31, was arrested for burglary, possession of a firearm, and illegally carrying a weapon with a controlled substance.

Moody, 21, was arrested on weapons and drug charges.

Price, 21, was arrested for simple assault, criminal damage, domestic abuse, battery, and assault with a weapon.

Dennis, 24, was arrested for multiple illegal weapons charges, extortion, kidnapping, armed robbery, and theft.

Chilling moment Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner SMIRKS as he’s asked ‘did you kill Maddie?’

THIS is the chilling moment the paedo prime Madeleine McCann suspect smirks when asked if he killed the child as he left court.

Christian Bruecker, 47, was in the dock in Lehrte, Germany, after being convicted of verbal assaulting guards at the prison where he’s serving seven-year sentence for rape.

Brueckner is due to be released in September after seeing out a seven-year rape sentence[/caption]

German police are convinced the convicted rapist abducted and killed Madeleine when she disappeared in May 2007, but he has always denied any involvement.

Time is running out for prosecutors to the pin him down, because he is due for release in September when he would likely flee to country.

As he left court on Thursday, journalists demanded to know whether he killed Madeleine.

Footage shows the creep remaining tight-lipped, instead flashing a chilling smirk.

A Sun investigation was broadcast on Channel 4 earlier this month that revealed bombshell evidence found at the suspect’s lair.

The disturbing evidence demonstrated Brueckner’s obsession with young kids.

Children’s clothes and toys were found, as well as masks, chemicals and guns.

Much of the evidence was discovered by chance at a disused factory Brueckner bought for £20,000 in 2008 – one year after Madeleine vanished.

Prosecutors wanted to delay the rapist walking free from prison in September this year – and buy more time as they consider charges over missing Madeleine.

They hoped that a conviction over verbal abuse would extend his detention – but he was instead sentenced to one month on probation.

German officials are still privately hoping British cops would reopen their live investigation into Brueckner before he is released, in just 18 weeks.

Lehrte court heard the brute dismissively referred to one female prison worker as “a joke” and telling another to “shut your gob”.

Insulting prison officers is a crime in Germany.

But his lawyer – who previously complained his client was being denied cheese behind bars – told the court any such remarks were in response to Brueckner’s feeling he was being tortured.

He hurled the insults during an tantrum in March 2024, when he also made the claims of “torture” and “inhumane” treatment, The Mirror reports.

A guard reportedly said Brueckner was as “enraged”, and later wrote a letter of apology to the prison staff saying he “woke up on the wrong side of the bed”.

If he commits another crime while on probation he will be recalled to prison for a month.

Brueckner is no longer being held in solitary confinement as he nears the end of his sentence.

The Sun’s findings revealed the existence of a 80gb hard drive and laptop containing images from Portugal, believed to be closely linked to cops’ belief that Maddie is in fact dead.

Pictures and documents also place Breuckner at key Maddie search location of the Arades Dam, in Portugal and an alleged confession site in Spain.

While a document cites the suspect at the location where he allegedly said “she did not scream” as he discussed the British toddler with an associate.

Sickening child abduction stories were also uncovered where Brueckner uses kidnap chemical ether to take a mum and tot outside a preschool.

In another with chilling similarities to Maddie Breuckner wrote: “A very small girl enters the room. She’s definitely not older than five.

“Blonde, long hair tied in pigtails bounces cheekily back and forth as she comes towards me.

“This is maid Annelie, she is four years old. I feel like I’m in paradise right now.”

Online messages we uncovered from Brueckner show him bragging to another sicko that he really wanted to “capture something small and use it for days”.

He even threatened it wouldn’t matter “if the evidence is destroyed afterwards” and gleefully added: “I’ll make a lot of films […] hehe.”

As Brueckner’s release date nears, a source told The Sun: “The clock is against the case here and investigators do not want to see Brueckner walk free,.

“Their best option could be intervention from UK cops but they have to be prepared to take it on. There are 20,000 pages of Madeleine evidence and the Germans are ready to translate the lot.”

Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, recently penned a heartbreaking tribute to mark the 18th anniversary of her disappearance.

They thanked those who have supported them and kept Madeleine in their thoughts.

The parents wrote: “No matter how near or far she is, she continues to be right here with us, every day,” alongside a picture of Madeleine.

Pregnant Brit ‘smuggler’ Bella Culley faces languishing in hellish Georgia jail for NINE MONTHS before trial even begins

A BRIT teen held in Georgia on drug smuggling charges could face a gruelling nine month wait in a brutal ex-Soviet prison as she awaits trial.

Bella May Culley was detained at Tbilisi Airport accused of trying to smuggle 30lb of marijuana into the Eastern European country.

Illustration of Bella Culley's travel route and arrest.

The 18-year-old appeared in court earlier this week, where she said she is pregnant and invoked her right to remain silent.

But she could now have to wait months in a hellish prison before she stands trial.

The prosecutor has requested 55 days to find evidence before the case is brought to trial, according to BBC reports.

But the broadcaster understands this could be extended by a further further seven months – meaning she could be kept waiting for almost nine months before her trial.

Ia Todua, Bella’s lawyer, said police wanted to work out where the alleged drugs had come from and whether she was “planning to hand it over to someone”.

The lawyer added that the prosecution estimates they will need two months to gather information.

She said: “They said that they had to conduct a lot of investigative activities, so that they can collect evidence, establish where it was from and was she planning to hand it over to someone.

“That’s what they said they want to establish, and they also confiscated her phone.”

Bella could have to wait for her trial in the brutal Women’s Penitentiary No. 5 in Rustavi – a slammer notorious for its hellish conditions.

A report by Georgia‘s ombudsman into the prison laid bare the horrifying conditions of the place where Bella could spend decades behind bars.

If convicted, Bella could be sent down for 20 years – or even life.

The report said: “When prisoners are received at the No.5 Facility,
they are inspected naked and are requested to squat, which the inmates consider degrading treatment.

“According to inmates, this procedure is especially humiliating and intensive during an inmate’s menstrual cycle.”

Before her arrest, Bella had been reported missing in Thailand – while she had been travelling in South East Asia.

RIOTS, HUNGER STRIKES AND STRIP SEARCHES… LIFE IN A BRUTAL GEORGIA PRISON

A report by Georgia’s ombudsman into Women’s Penitentiary No. 5 outlines the horrors that could await the Brit teenager.

“When prisoners are received at the No.5 Facility,
they are inspected naked and are requested to squat, which the inmates consider degrading treatment,” the report reads.

“According to inmates, this procedure is especially humiliating and intensive during an inmate’s menstrual cycle.”

Hygiene problems are said to be rampant, with reports of no running drinking water and clogged drains.

Just earlier this year, the journalist Mzia Amaglobeli went on hunger strike inside the women’s prison in protest against Georgia’s government.

In 2006, a Tbilisi prison saw seven inmates killed and 17 seriously injured in one of the country’s worst ever prison riots.

Authorities were accused of using excessive force.

A Human Rights Watch report has found Georgia’s prisons are “severely overcrowded” – which threatens the safety of inmates.

She had originally jetted to the Philippines to meet an old friend, but reportedly plans last minute to go to Thailand with unidentified strangers.

A family friend has claimed Bella is being “completely exploited”, saying: “She’s just a normal 18-year-old. She’s not some hardened criminal.”

Bella has submitted a formal request for her dad Niel – who lives in Vietnam – and aunt Kerrie to be allowed to visit her in prison.

Ms Todua told the Sun: “When I explained to her the consequences – that she could be sentenced to 15-20 years in prison or life – she was visibly shaken.

“My impression was that she ended up in Georgia without even knowing what she was doing.

“I got the impression she wasn’t expecting those consequences.”

Her family have also taken to social media to warn people about the fake fundraising pages that are circulating online.

Bella’s cousin Claire Taylorson wrote on Facebook: “Please be aware that a GoFundMe has been set up.

“Bella’s family do not want any campaigns such as Go Fund Me, and have certainly not asked for any financial help in this form.

“Please respect the family and the difficulties that they are facing.”
