Hey everyone, I am looking for some advice on purchasing/installing a home security system specific to my living situation. I am looking to purchase an outdoor security system for myself and my neighbours (who are my in-laws). Here is some quick backgr…
Every outdoor camera system I’ve found requires a cell phone and/or cloud month fee. I just want something simple that transmits to my PC’s wifi, for storage.
Alternative, is there a stupid stand-alone camera that’s battery powered and saves to an SD card? That would work too.

Hello all,
I am working on a large residential project where we are building a total of 4 homes on a 40 acre lot.
The first home is large, 5500sq/ft (single story, non-rectangular with lots of inset areas) and the other 3 are identical smaller traditional rectangular homes (1200sq/ft ea). The large home is roughly 1200 feet away from the large home, and they will be networked via a wireless bridge rated for 1.5gb speed.
By my first estimation at the number of cameras, I’m arriving at 40-48 cameras. That’s approx. 24 for the big house, and 8/ea. for the 3 smaller homes.
For simplicity, I’d like to make them all the same (ie 4K/8MP outdoor IP67 dome cameras). I’ve had a good run with Amcrest. They are cheap, and work quite well based on my experience. Any other suggestions at under $100 USD/ea.?
I’ve been a long-time Blue Iris home user (8ch), but feel Blue Iris will require a very beefy server to reliably operate that many cameras, whereas I feel an NVR would be best suited. It may not have all of the features of BI, but its single-purpose HW, and probably will require less maintenance over time. They will be monitored remotely, so reliability is important. What do you think? Any recommendations for a 48ch capable NVR?
I can either run 2 NVR’s, each with 24 channels, one for the big house, and the other for the 3x smaller homes or a single 48ch NVR centralized. Any reason to do 2 NVRs vs. a single NVR? I can only think of one–the weak link being the wireless bridge. If this goes down, I loose access to the cameras/recordings. The tradeoff is needing to manage two NVRs.
Any other approaches you can think of or problems you can anticipate me having? Any feedback/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
thank you.

Hi all, looking for a recessed outdoor motion sensor to put in my eaves to detect people walking down a corridor between my home and side fence. Area is only around 1m wide and the wave is around 2.1m from the ground. submitted by /u/Doin…
I have an Alarm.com account with General Security, and looking to move to SuretyHome. I’m hoping to keep my ADC account (thinking I can retain some integrations like MyQ, and various family and phone logins).
Surety and AlarmGrid have webpages that discuss the option, mentioning an account transfer PIN.
Anyone have practical experience?
Thanks in advance!

I have a simply safe camera that watches my driveway but I wanted something smaller for my garage and back of the house etc. I like the geeni brand because I have some cameras for my reptiles but I need something that has battery. Every outdoor camera…
I need to capture video of a car driving down my block that may have fled a crime. My system is set to continuous recording with motion zones for vehicles and people. I have 3 cameras facing that area. 2 of the 3 have no recordings for the vast majority of the day. The other 1 does show a recording all day but when I download that time block, the resulting mp4 file is greyed out for almost the entire video. However, oddly enough, on the Lorex app on my phone if I go into motion alerts I see an alert on one of the 2 cameras with no recordings and can watch the corresponding clip that I need however it starts too late to be useful.
Do I have some sort of HDD failure? I’m using the original 2gb that came with it. What could be the issue?

Bought 4 acres land with 2k sqft house in a remote area. New to this area and way of living. Home has several big glass windows. How do we set up some basic system? What all should we account for? submitted by /u/No_Change7422 [link] &#…
We have an old GE Concorde 4 system originally with ADT. Every window and door is wired with a flush sensor, which I prefer to the new wireless sensors that are kind of big and ugly. We want to get a home security system that does burglary, but also f…
