Advice on outdoor cameras & weather exposure.

I live in a transitional neighborhood, and I purchased Ring cameras. The one by the front door, which is outside but partially protected by the porch roof, is pretty much clear at all times.

However, the one by my back door, which is also outside and in the same weather conditions (but not covered) is incredibly impacted by the weather and humidity. For example, this is an image grab from this morning. No rain or snow or anything, just humidity, low temp of 52.

Is there anything I can do about this? Would a different camera perform better? I’m just stymied that the front camera and back camera have such different results.

Locking Belongings Inside After Garage Break In

Anyone here from Canada and could provide some recommendations on a quality security chain that won’t break the bank (cough Peweg) and a solid lock that will be somewhat cut resistant? Was looking at Squire, but unsure if they ship to Canada or if a lo…

How do I secure this door?

I live in an apartment building, with my storage unit roughly 200-250 feet away down the same hallway. Just before Xmas, there was an attempted break in for the storage unit. The setup was a metal door and frame, with only a deadbolt and a threaded met…

How Can I Set Up the TP-Link Tapo C210 WiFi Security Camera When I’m Away from the Camera?

I’m planning to buy the TP-Link Tapo C210 WiFi camera, but I’m unable to be physically present at the location to set it up.

I read in the manual that only two people are allowed to have access to the camera. The tutorial can be found at the following link: [link for the tutorial].

A person, with their phone, will be at the location to set up the camera. According to the tutorial, the second user only has a view-only option.

My question is, is it possible for me to make my device the main account on the camera?

Are there other type of cameras you can recommend that work well and have option for me to access remotely?

help with a Uniden gc7880d3 wired surveillance system

Hi there! I have a wired surveillance system that the operating system has died and is no longer even supported by the manufacturer.

Can anyone recommend what I can do from here? I really don’t want to trash the cameras, they work just fine and I don’t have the wifi capabilites to do a wireless setup anyway, so I’m trying to figure out how to utilize what I have by replacing the computer that runs it, I just have no idea where to even begin. Can I just use an old laptop? Are the cameras only good for use with that particular unit?

I have already looked for an exact replacement, but no luck, and Uniden literally told me they won’t do anything for me since they no longer even support that type of product any longer. I can’t even get them to answer questions about it.

Thanks in advance for any help and if this isn’t the best place to ask about this, my apologies, and could someone direct me to a better place?

What to do with my alarm system. Is it broken?

I have an NX-4v2 control panel and an interlogix GE Security NX-148E LCD Keypad. Since moving into our home we haven’t known the code and haven’t been using the system, but recently have become interested in getting it up and running. We want to keep local alarms at the windows/doors and potentially add wifi self monitoring but are not interested in paying for monitoring.

When reconnecting it most recently, it powered up but won’t stay on. I’m wondering if the positive wire touched the common wire…. now what is happening is the voltage regulator at the TouchPad and the heat sink are getting very hot very fast when connected. Does my TouchPad need replaced. Does the control panel need replaced. Any advice on testing or a path forward would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for 24/7 recording with local storage on doorbell and satelite cameras

Little bit of background info:

Currently living in a house with not very good internet (60mb down, 15mb up) and am using the Eufy doorbell with Eufy homebase2, and 2 satelite cameras.

My issue with them is that they never seem to actually record anything that I want them to. They’ll pick up steam from the boiler exhaust, or a hedge blowing in the wind, but not someone dumping a load of stuff in the skip literally right infront of the doorbell, or a truck dragging a neighbours car down the road…

In my previous house we used a Nest doorbell and wired nest cameras and they were excellent (not because of event recording, but just because they had 24/7 and you could manually skip back if needed). However, I can’t imagine my upload is going to be able to handle 3 cameras (and I’d ideally like to put in another 3).

Is there a decent quality doorbell + outdoor camera setup that has 24/7 recording to a local storage, but is accessible via an app, has event/detection alerts, and does not upload anything significant to the cloud other than event clip thumbnails (and when you’re viewing the clips via app etc) ?

I’ve read that you can set Ring cameras to be local only.

Oh also, I appreciate that Eufy can’t do it because they’re battery. I’m quite happy to get these hard wired if I need to. I just can’t spare the upload 🙁 Would love even to get some PoE cameras so I can install some in the garden.

Thanks for any help. I’m just about ready to bin these Eufy cams off.
