Need advice for a phone setup.

No sure where else to go.

Mods: Please let me know if I should move this.

My elderly parents have moved into a new home without the old rj11 phone wiring. But it does have wifi. They just need a simple phone. They Hate cellphones. Boomer energy…

Because of their age, the “big button” ones are what they need.

Does anyone know if a phone like this could be somehow connected to wifi? Or if there’s a similar style pre-built for wifi?

There’s no access to ethernet, or cable. It’s a condo with Just wifi

Arlo announce End-of-Life for Gen 3 and Pro cameras, drops free 7 day storage, but offers PAID storage!

Arlo cameras Gen 3 and Pro (VMC3030) and(VMC4030) have been declared EOL effective April 1 2023. Thus ending the free 7 day storage that was included when purchased.

Additionally the following models will be EOL 1/1/24: Arlo Pro 2 (VMC4030P), Arlo Q (VMC3040),Arlo Q+ (VMC3040S),Arlo Baby (ABC1000), Arlo Security Light (ALS1101), Arlo Audio Doorbell (AAD1001)

Per their FAQ “What does this mean to me when the services are moved to EOL?”

“For users of the affected devices, free 7-day rolling cloud storage will no longer be available, and users will no longer receive email notifications for system issues such as low battery or motion detection.”

Quote from Arlo’s Notice “These cameras also can utilize Arlo’s new cloud storage, which is available with the Arlo Secure subscription”.

How convenient to offer paid storage for EOL cameras.

Lesson Learned, I will NEVER purchase another Arlo product, nor any security hardware that relies on “the Cloud” to operate.

EDITED to Add: I will continue to use my Qolsys panel and Alarm.com service, but no more stuff from companies that are not dedicated security providers (Ring, Arlo, Blink, etc).

Are Alula Cameras Compatibile with Other Systems?

Hi all.

Our current security monitoring system (ADT taken over from Ackerman) has Alula cameras, 2 outdoor and 3 indoor. They are all powered by plugging in and connect to the system via wifi.

We liked Ackerman but totally hate ADT and are definitely leaving ADT because their customer service sucks so bad.

We are wondering if Alula cameras may be compatible with other monitoring systems. I’m good with DIY installation, but we definitely want a monitored system.

Does anyone have any knowledge about system compatibility with Alula cameras? My Google searches so far have indicated they are proprietary to Alula systems. If so, I wonder if that is standard in the security industry.

Thanks for reading.

critter/game/trail camera or home security camera for basement

I recently evicted a racoon from inside my basement. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to locate entry point. Most likely under my deck. Before I tear up deck boards, I thought I’d place a security cameras in basement.

I do not have a home security system but do have a mesh network. So, I am in need of advice on which camera system is best.

Featured I’d like are motion activated, night vision, ability to record and send live video/images to my phone/app, hard wired preferred but battery ok.

I prefer a stand alone setup as i do not want a whole home setup (doorbell cam, main hub, monthly fees for cloud storage Etc)

I do not want motion activated lights because i think it may scare critter b4 i can see entry. My apologies in advance for being a newb and unversed in lingo.

PSA for Luxriot Evo Complimentary users: loss of license

If you’re currently running Luxriot Evo Complimentary, I’ve just discovered that it’s no longer possible to re-install under the old license model of up to 9 cameras being free. You can download the past versions but the activation fails.

I’ve spoken to Luxriot about this and their response was that my only option was to pay up (my server recently failed completely, with total data loss). I’ve switched to Agent DVR but will give Blue Iris a go to see if it better meets my requirements. It’s a shame, because I really liked Luxriot but I have no way of knowing that I wouldn’t have similar issues with a paid version down the road. If you’re running the complimentary version, it’s probably worth looking at alternatives in case something happens that forces you to switch (assuming you’re not happy to pay up).

Completely lost and overwhelmed with home security systems for new house in Phoenix. Trying to avoid ADT. Help please.

Hi all, my husband and I don’t know where to start with home security systems and there are so many options. We have a house in the suburbs of PHX with a newborn. An ADT salesman came to give us a proposal of $1200 to get started and then $53/mo moving forward. This includes police activation, smoke detector, shock sensor, Wireless Sensors bundle, command 7in touchscreen, and more, like 24/7 intrusion monitoring and voice control integration. A few friends have told us to just do ADT because ” everyone else is trying to be them,” but I’ve read so many posts on here that are against them. I grew up with Arlo, and I’m not sure if they are worth looking into to compare. Our next door neighbors use local company named Foresight, and I’m not sure if local the way to go?

If anyone has insight for us, that would be great. We’ve been here for 5 months now so we really need some sort of a system, especially since it’s just baby and me home all day everyday. Thank you so much.

Zmodo local video access?

Hello all, I have an old Zmodo NVR (zm-ss7009d8-s). I want to access the cameras video feed locally to either use it in Home assistant or other program and be able to block the internet access of this old device (Vlan). Any ideas where to start? Thanks…
