Algerian researcher Said Djabelkhir said in a January 15, 2023 show on Sky News Arabia (UAE) that in its current state, Islamic heritage starkly contradicts modernity and human rights. He said that the school curricula produce extremist religious fanatics instead of instilling students with acceptance, tolerance, and coexistence. He also said that the concept of the “fatwa” should be abolished and that Islamic scholars should only provide Muslims with information, analysis, and opinions so that Muslims can choose their own opinions. He stated: “The Muslim masses need enlightenment.” In addition, Djabelkhir proposed that Islamic scholarship should get rid of some hadiths and revise some of the ancient jurisprudential Islamic reasoning. He added that students of shari’a should study comparative religion in an open-minded way, as well as various subjects from the humanities.

On January 8, 2023, a memorial ceremony marking three years since the IRGC shot down Ukrainian Airlines Flight 752 was held in Toronto by the Association of Victims’ Families of Flight PS752. At the event, the association’s founder Hamed Esmaeilion, whose wife and daughter had been aboard Flight 752, said that the Islamic Republic is a “mafia gang” and a “tyrannical state that produces nothing but terrorism, repression, and injustice.” He said that the Islamic Republic does not represent the Iranian people, and he spoke about the death of Jina (Mahsa) Amini and of protestors killed and executed by the Iranian regime. In addition, he expressed hope that Iran will face justice in the ICJ, and he said that the families of the victims live for a day of freedom and justice in a democratic Iran in which women and girls can decide for themselves what they wear. He added: “We live for a day without the Islamic Republic and [without] the criminals who ruin that beautiful country.” The event was also attended by Mayor of Toronto John Tory, and videos from the ceremony were posted to the association’s YouTube account.

On January 5, 2023, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas spoke to Karim Yunis, an Israeli-Arab terrorist and a member of Fatah’s Central Committee who was just released from Israeli prison. Abbas congratulated him on his release and said that Palestinians will not make any concessions regarding the prisoners. The video of the phone call was posted on Abbas’s official Facebook page.On January 19, 2023, Abbas also spoke to Israeli-Arab terrorist Maher Yunis to congratulate him upon his release. Abbas said: “You and Karim are dignitaries of the Palestinian people.” Video of this phone call was posted on the Facebook page of Palestine TV.Karim and Maher Yunis are two cousins from the Israeli town of ‘Ara and were recently released after serving 40 years in prison for murdering an Israeli soldier named Avraham Bromberg in 1980.

Dr. Jamileh Alamolhoda, the wife of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, said in a January 23, 2023 interview on Mayadeen TV (Lebanon) that that the basis for military resistance is a resistance “culture” and that there can be no martyrs in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq or elsewhere without the wives and mothers who prepare their husbands and sons for martyrdom.

In a January 17, 2023 show on Awda TV (Palestinian Authority), Fatah Revolutionary Council member Muhammad Al-Lahham praised Palestinian terrorists Raad Hazem and Diaa Hamarsheh, as well as the 2001 PFLP assassination of Israel’s Minister of Tourism Rehavam Ze’evi. He said that the Palestinians are nearing a stage in which there will be more blood and more confrontation, and he stated that Fatah is capable of retaliating against all of the “occupation’s crimes.” He also said that young Fatah men and women are ready to set out and sacrifice themselves in order to “impose a curfew” on Tel Aviv and in the settlements.

American activist Alison Weir said in an interview with Channel 4 (Iran) that aired on January 14, 2023 that the “the Jewish establishment” in the United States is behind the wars against Iraq and Iran. A song dedicated to Palestinian terrorist Khairy Alqam, who murdered seven people near a Jerusalem synagogue and wounded two others, titled “Sacred Retaliation” was posted on Alaa Qadouha’s YouTube account on January 29, 2023. The lyrics laud Alqam, stating: “Blessed be your hand.” The lyrics further state: “Make them tremble in fear […] fighting is our hobby […] the beginning is in Jerusalem.” The lead singer is Ramze Alokk (also selled Ramzi Al-Ak), who was sentenced by Israeli authorities to 30 years in prison for his involvement in attempted bombings and in sniper attacks in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo, but was released in the 2011 Shalit Deal and banished to Gaza.

On January 27, 2023, hours before the Jerusalem synagogue massacre in which a Palestinian terrorist killed seven Israelis and injured several others (the most lethal terror attack in Israel since 2011), the Palestinian Authority’s official broadcaster Palestine TV aired a Friday sermon delivered in the West Bank village of Khan Al-Ahmar. The imam, whose name was not given, told his audience that Allah has “given them permission” to wage Jihad, that they must live free or die as martyrs, and that the Quran urges Muslims to “kill and be killed” for the sake of Allah.

On January 29, 2023, two days after several Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants were killed in clashes with Israeli forces in Jenin, the American pro-Palestine organization Within Our Lifetime organized a rally in Brooklyn in honor of the “martyrs” of Jenin. At the rally, the organization’s leader Nerdeen Kiswani said that you cannot support Palestinians without supporting their right self-defense. She added: “We will never stop fighting for Palestine until every single inch of our land is free!” Laila Boutros from the NY/NJ branch of the Samidoun organization, which was founded by PFLP members and is considered a terrorist organization by Israel, saluted the Palestinian “resistance organizations” and “their steadfast and valiant fight to avenge all Palestinian martyrs and reclaim Palestine from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea.” One rally participant wore a sweatshirt emblazoned with a photo of Palestinian terrorist Ibrahim Al-Nabulsi in full combat gear and brandishing weapons, with the quote: “I love my mother and I have been martyred.” Al-Nabulsi was killed in a firefight with Israeli security forces in August 2022. The protesters also chanted “Globalize the Intifada!” and “We don’t want no two states, we want all of it!” The footage of the rally was posted to various online sources, including Christopher Leon Johnson on YouTube, Within Our lifetime on Instagram, and Palestine Online on Twitter.

Lebanese political activist Dr. Naji Hayek, who is affiliated with the Free Patriotic Movement, said in an interview that was posted to the Bel Moubashar YouTube channel on January 19, 2023, that the Shiites are Hizbullah’s top priority, followed by the Sunnis, with the Christians being their lowest priority. He said that Hizbullah uses its weapons for its benefit, and that goods in Beirut’s Hizbullah-controlled suburb of Dahiyeh are much cheaper than anywhere else because Hizbullah imports them through border crossings that it controls. He also said that the defense of Lebanon is the right of all Lebanese people, and that the current situation in which Hizbullah controls its own weapons must be changed for him to change his view regarding Hizbullah.
