The European Parliament, European Commission and the EU Council recently banned TikTok from staff phones due to growing concerns about the company.
TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company Bytedance, has long maintained that it does not share data with the Chinese government and that its data is not held in China.
The move comes as Canadian MPs are set to probe security concerns about TikTok, a popular social media application, at a parliamentary committee.
The amended motion calls on the members to dig into TikTok and other social media platforms’ use ‘of private information of Canadians for the objective of data harvesting.’
