Emmanuel Macron & wife Brigitte put on united front for cameras day after shocking face slap drama

EMMANUEL Macron and his wife Brigitte have put on a united front for the world’s cameras a day after the shocking face slap drama.

Viral footage that has overshadowed the start of the couple’s Southeast Asia tour shows the French leader’s wife shoving him in the mouth and jaw after landing in Vietnam.

Furious Macron attempted to downplay the incident last night by claiming the pair were “squabbling and, rather joking”.

He added that the unbelievable incident has been overblown into “a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe”.

The French leader also argued that the clip and viral reaction to it offered a cautionary tale about disinformation in the social media age.

Today, Macron and the First Lady were captured arm-in-arm after arriving at Hanoi’s University of Science and Technology for the French president to make a speech.

The couple pictured together comes a mere few hours after Macron claimed “crackpot” conspiracy theorists were trying to heighten speculation on what their marriage might look like behind closed doors.

Footage of the shove was initially denied by Macron’s office as being an AI-generated fake – but were forced to retract their statement and admit it was genuine.

His office said: “It was a moment where the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by horsing around.

“It’s a moment of complicity. It was all that was needed to give ammunition to the conspiracy theorists.”

The unbelievable moment captured at Hanoi airport showed Macron facing his wife – who is out of the frame – as the plane’s doors opened.

Despite Brigitte not being visible, her arms are soon seen raising as she shoves a stern-looking Macron in the face.

Appearing shocked, the French leader immediately notices the doors open and quickly turns to wave at the sea of cameras at the bottom of the plane steps.

Despite Macron’s attempts to defuse claims that they weren’t in a heated argument, the couple’s body language immediately after the push seems to suggest otherwise.

Brigitte and Macron emerge together from the aircraft and walk down the staircase, with the French leader extending his arm to his wife.

But she takes hold of the handrail of the walkway for support instead, potentially due to an explosive argument they could have had inside.

The French leader has repeatedly been targeted by conspiracy theories and deepfakes.

He previously had to deny “false and fabricated” rumours his wife was born a man, dubbing the transgender claims as being typified misogynistic online attacks on women.

And recently he blasted a fake Russian claim that he had a bag of cocaine on the table when he was pictured on his way to Kyiv with Keir Starmer and Germany’s Friedrich Merz.

Drawing comparison with the shove video and the cocaine tissue claim, Macron said in Vietnam last night: “For three weeks, there have been people who have watched videos and who think that I shared a bag of cocaine, that I had a mano-a-mano with a Turkish president and now that I am having a domestic dispute with my wife.

“In these three videos, I took a tissue, shook someone’s hand and just joked with my wife, as we do quite often. Nothing more.

“None of this is true. So everyone needs to calm down.”

The politician was just 15 when he started a relationship with the then mother-of-three, his French literature teacher.

Macron is in Hanoi to begin a week-long tour of Southeast Asia, where he will also visit Indonesia and Singapore.

Macron and Brigitte’s body language examined

By Eleonora Girotto, Video Journalist

A BODY language expert has labelled the incident between Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte as “shocking” and “very unfunny”.

Judi James said that the French President insisting that the shove was “playful” is worrying because it’s “trying to normalise something that we should be shocked by”.

The expert told The Sun: “We quite rightly should be shocked by it, and it absolutely shouldn’t matter who’s doing it to who.

“That’s not good natural behaviour. We can see Macron, who very much the alpha male leader with his body language, preparing to get off the plane.

“The door opens and anybody looking at him and his wife obviously more than anybody else would know that he’s getting into professional mode.

“He’s about to step out in Vietnam on the world stage, and he’s kind of pumped up accordingly. He seems to talk to his wife at the side who we can’t see at this point.

“But then, shockingly, her hand comes out and presses against his face, the nose as well.

“And if anybody wants to try this on themselves, you’ll feel how vulnerable it makes you feel. And pushes it to the point where he reels sideways.

“So it’s not a little stroke or anything like that, and then there’s even a final extra push at the end that I think technically could have toppled him over.

“You know, this is not playing. It certainly wouldn’t be playing at work or anywhere. It’s entirely inappropriate.

“We can see Macron, his expression suddenly changes to a micro gesture of shock before he turns around and seems to have a conversation with his wife.

“Then when we see them emerging, obviously, there’s this attempt to sort of do a glow up – nothing just happened.

“He does a little wave before this happens. But then when they come out together formally, he does put his hand out and seems to extend it, either to hold her hand or maybe to help her down the steps or to usher her first.

“But she ignores him and we get both of them coming down, holding the opposite handrail, making their way down. So it looks very, I would say, frosty. But I would still say that Macron looks rather shocked.

“And we can see later on, if we look at a close up of his hand, we can see that it’s bored into a fist. The knuckles look white. So clearly a lot of pent up tension there as a result, quite rightly.

“I’m pretty sure that over the next few days, we’re going to see a superhuman effort to try and look like the sweetest, most loving couple. And I’m sure that we’re going to see Brigitte looking a lot more submissive and make him look a lot more dominant.”

Emmanuel Macron reveals reason why wife Brigitte SHOVED him in face in embarrassing moment in front of world’s cameras

EMMANUEL Macron has been forced to reveal the reason why his wife Brigitte pushed him in the face in the embarrassing moment caught on camera.

Macron has since slammed claims that the pair were in a heated argument and instead said they were “squabbling and, rather, joking”.

He added that the bizarre incident as been overblown into “a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe”.

The French leader also argued that the clip and viral reaction to it offered a cautionary tale about disinformation in the social media age.

Macron’s office were also forced to speak out, downplaying the surprising interaction.

His office said: “It was a moment where the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by horsing around.

“It’s a moment of complicity. It was all that was needed to give ammunition to the conspiracy theorists.”

Pro-Russian social media accounts initiated the cocaine conspiracy theory – which spread rapidly online.

One account posted on X: “Macron, Starmer and Merz caught on video on their return from Kiev. A bag of white powder on the table.

“Macron quickly pockets it, Merz hides the spoon. No explanation given.”

Even Russia‘s foreign ministry even poured petrol on the flames, when its spokesperson Maria Zakharova posted on Telegram that “a Frenchman, an Englishman and a German” had been spotted with cocaine paraphernalia on a train.

She wrote: “The fate of Europe is being decided by utterly (drug) dependent individuals.

“It’s as if the Almighty Himself is lifting the veil on this putrid spectacle.”

Macron & Brigette’s romance

EMMANUEL Macron, the youngest president in France’s history, met his future wife when he was just 15 years old.

Macron was Brigitte’s drama student in school – where she would read his writing out to the class.

When Macron hit the limelight, footage of him kissing his future wife on the cheek – when he was just a teen and she was his married teacher – emerged.

Macron, now 46, shared a classroom at a Catholic school with Brigitte’s daughter Laurence – who is the same age as him.

His parents were stunned when they learned that their son was romantically involved with his teacher as they believed he was actually in love with Laurence, reports Reuters.

Writer Anne Fulda, who penned the book Emmanuel Macron: A Perfect Young Man, spoke to the politician’s parents about the unconventional romance, which happened while Brigitte was still married to the father of her three children.

His parents were shocked by the explosive revelation and removed their teen son from the school in Amiens, in northern France, and sent him to finish his education in Paris.

Macron married his wife in 2007 after Brigitte’s previous marriage ended in divorce.

The former economics minister is step-father to his wife’s three adult children, including son Sebastien who is two years older than Macron.

Macron does not have any biological children with his wife, although he is also the step-grandfather of Brigitte’s seven grandchildren.

I’m an ex-cop who hunted for Jay Slater – his drug dealer ‘pal’ MUST come forward and answer key questions from inquest

A FORMER Met detective who investigated Jay Slater’s disappearance has said his drug dealer “pal” has to come forward and answer key questions from the inquest.

Mark Williams-Thomas – who worked on the Madeleine McCann case – conducted his “own investigation” after the 19-year-old went missing on the island of Tenerife in June last year.

The inquest into Jay’s death was suddenly adjourned yesterday after his grieving mum Debbie pleased the coroner to summon crucial witnesses – including convicted drug dealer Ayub Qassim.

Detective turned TV-sleuth Mr Williams-Thomas said he had been in close contact during the investigation with a number of witnesses – including Jay’s family and friends.

Now he has urged Qassim to come forward and answer questions from the “disappointing” inquest.

Qassim took the 19-year-old Brit back to an Airbnb in Masca the night before he went missing on June 17.

Mr Williams-Thomas called Qassim “the most important witness” who he says gave him “crucial evidence” that “hasn’t been made public” yet.

The ex-detective added that the evidence he received from Qassim in his own investigation provides “greater context” as to why Jay left the villa.

Qassim was previously jailed for nine years in 2015 as the ringleader of a London-based gang dealing heroin and crack cocaine in Cardiff.

He and another Brit previously known only as “Rocky” had rented the Airbnb in the remote Tenerife mountains that they took Jay back to after the festival.

Jay posted a final Snapchat picture of himself smoking on the doorstep of the apartment at 7.30am on June 17 before leaving shortly after.

Qassim has always denied any involvement in Jay’s death.

Jay’s disappearance sparked widespread media interest – as well as a slew of social media conspiracy theories.

One of those theories claimed Jay had stolen a £12,000 watch – which his mum Debbie dismissed as vile rumours.

Josh Forshaw, who met Jay as they boarded a plane from Manchester to Tenerife, said he received a message from the teen before he disappeared.

It read: “Ended up getting thrown out with two Mali kids, just took an AP [luxury watch strap] off somebody and was on the way to sell it.”

Josh told the hearing via video link that Jay said he was planning to sell the strap for “10 quid”, slang for £10,000.

Josh told the hearing he received a Snapchat from Jay later in the night that claimed he “ended up getting thrown out” of the venue with two other people.

He also claimed Jay sent him a photo showing “knives down his trousers” that was captioned “in case it kicks off”.

Josh said he didn’t mention the image to Spanish police before leaving Tenerife, but did inform cops in Lancashire on his return.

Speaking of Josh’s claim of receiving the knives image, Mr Williams-Thomas says he was told that they weren’t found with him and were left in the apartment.

Apprentice bricklayer Jay travelled to the Spanish island in June to attend the NRG music festival in Playa de las Americas with two friends, Lucy Law and Brad Hargreaves.

The teen travelled to an Airbnb apartment in Masca with two men including Qassim in the early hours of June 17, before leaving at around 8am.

Jay, of Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, made a heartbreaking final call to his friend Law saying he had cut his leg, was lost, dehydrated and had just one per cent battery on his phone after he left the Airbnb.

On Wednesday night, Law’s family revealed she was simply on holiday on the very same island where Jay died.

They claimed she was also unaware that she had been called to give evidence at the inquest.

Speaking at the family home in Burnley, Lucy’s stepfather Andy Davis said: “We had no idea Jay’s inquest was even being held today.

“The police have only just been round today to say that she was due to give evidence. But it’s the first time we knew of it.”

He added: “They asked if Lucy was home and I said she was abroad and they asked me if I was aware that she should have been in court, and I said I wasn’t.”

“The police said they had sent Lucy paperwork with the dates on it, but the first I knew about it was when the police turned up earlier today.”

Sources in the Slater family later said they were aware where the other missing witnesses were, and had also been able to find them easily, according to the MailOnline.

A post-mortem examination concluded he died of traumatic head injuries[/caption]

The family source said: “Lucy is in Tenerife. Another supposedly untraceable witness is on holiday in Greece.

“If we can find this out so quickly why can’t the police?”

The court also heard a suggestion that witnesses may be reluctant to appear because drugs may have been involved.

After Jay’s body was found, officials said there were traces of cocaine, ecstasy and ketamine in his body.

Dr Adeley said: “When drugs are involved in a death, the witnesses are less than forthcoming and do not wish to speak to the authorities.”

Jay‘s disappearance and death remain largely cloaked in mystery and it is hoped that glaring gaps in his final movements will be filled after the inquest.

The inquest heard from three construction workers who said, via video link, they saw Jay on the main road through the remote village of Masca and he asked them about bus times.

He was attempting the treacherous 10-hour walk back to his apartment in Los Cristianos when he called Lucy to say he was lost.

DCI Rachel Higson, head of digital media investigations at Lancashire Police, told the hearing today that Jay’s phone recorded “a lot of steps and inclines” between 7.59am and 8.49am.

His mobile last pinged in the mountainous Rural de Teno Park after Jay walked the wrong way from the Airbnb, and DCI Higson said there was “no data recorded” after 8.49:51am.

After a month-long search, Jay’s body was found in a ravine on July 15 last year – near to where his phone last pinged.

A post-mortem examination concluded he died of traumatic head injuries, consistent with a fall from height.

Home Office pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd today told the inquest Jay suffered a “heavy fall from height” and the “devastating” effects would have been “immediate”.

Why the inquest farce is more pain for Jay’s family

By Katie Davis, Chief Foreign Reporter (Digital)

AS I stood in the sweltering, remote mountains of Masca I was told the news Jay Slater’s loved ones dreaded – his body had been found.

But for his devastated family, it didn’t bring the closure they so desperately needed.

Now almost a year on, his grief-stricken mum, dad and brother have been subjected to yet more torment as an inquest into his death dredged up painful details of his disappearance – while lacking any actual answers.

Jay’s courageous mum Debbie Duncan opened up to me just weeks after his body was found about how she was tortured by not knowing what happened to her beloved son before he fell to his death.

I was humbled by the bravery she showed in the face of living every parent’s worst nightmare on the world stage – relentlessly hounded by mindless trolls.

Spineless witnesses failing to turn up to the hearing to provide crucial information is a kick in the teeth for Debbie and his already suffering family.

The 19-year-old went missing 11 months ago, and his body tragically discovered 29 days later.

So why after all these months has the court failed to bring together vital witnesses – including the two friends he was on holiday with?

After months and months of battling through their grief, the last thing Jay’s family needed was to face a farce of a hearing without the necessary witnesses.
