If there are two things every modern Muslim agrees on, it’s that you can’t eat pork and you can’t drink alcohol. But, if the historical records are to be believed, the early “Muslims” thought very differently about at least one of those. The more we learn about early Islam, the more we learn it wasn’t Islam (in the modern sense) at all. Rather modern Islam is the accumulation of 14 centuries of bid’ah (innovation) and not remotely the “revelations” of a single man named Muhammad. Mel from Islamic Origins joins me to discuss his latest discoveries in his research on early Islam.
